ACE Renamer at a glance

General overview of the software and its functionality

ACE Renamer works in six different modes depending on the content of the files to be renamed. When loading files, the program suggests the most appropriate mode based on the name and type of the files. Then, the user must use one or more of the six available tools to modify the file names. Finally, the ‘Rename’ tool will provide the latest necessary information for the renaming based on the desired format.

The tools

There are six tools available to rename files depending on the chosen working mode.

Associate Fields tool

Associate fields

This tool is used to identify the fields in the file name. For example: when renaming a TV series there will be several fields to be identified: series name, season number, episode number and title of the episode. This tool should only be used if the identification performed automatically by the program is incorrect.

Replacements tool

Replacements

This tool is used to carry out replacement of individual characters, symbols or words. For example: replace underscores by spaces or correct a word which is misspelled in all or some episodes.

Upper and Lower Case tool

Upper and lower case

This tool is used to perform automatic formatting of some or all fields according to desired criteria. For example: when renaming music, to indicate that the first word of the title of the songs must be in uppercase and the rest lowercase.

Garbage Treatment tool

Garbage treatment

This tool is used to eliminate this unwanted string of characters that often appears at the end of the file names. For example: when renaming movies, many of the names end with a string like [dvdrip.etc]_ etc. ACE Renamer identifies and eliminates garbage automatically, although the user also has the option to indicate where the garbage begins and ACE file Renamer will remove it from all selected files.

Change Extension tool

Change extension

To modifiy the extension of the loaded files.

Rename tool

Rename

This tool should always be used last. It is used to indicate other details required depending on the work mode. For example: when renaming music, with this tool you can indicate the year of the album, modify the artist’s name or modify the suggested name for the parent folder of audio files, among other things.

The modes

There are six working modes, depending on the content of the files to be renamed.

TV Series mode

TV Series mode

Designed to rename tv series, documentary series, or any other program containing episodes. ACE Renamer will automatically attempt to identify the appropriate fields in the episodes: series name, season number, episode number and title of the episode. When renaming the episodes, the program has also the ability to automatically rename the cover of the season and the series name and series season folders.

Output file name format (fields in brackets are optional):

[seriesName]\[Season XX]\seriesName – seasonNumXepisodeNum – episodeTitle.ext

Example before renaming:

..\New folder\Battlestar.galactica.(2004).1×02.water.dvdrip.xvid.VOSTFR-sfm.[tvu.org.ru].avi

Example after renaming:

..\Battlestar Galactica 2003\Season 01\Battlestar Galactica 2003 1×02 Water.avi
Movies mode

Movies mode

Designed to rename several movies, documentaries, shows or any other program with just one video. When loading a group of films, ACE Renamer identifies and removes garbage. In a few seconds you can simultaneously rename a large number of films. The resulting format is simply the name of the movie.

Output file name format:

MovieName.ext
Videos mode

Videos mode

This mode is intended for home videos that usually have names like MOV001.MOD. Renamer sets as filename the date and time of creation (in YYYY MM DD – HH:MM:SS format). This way, being sorted by name will mean being chronologically sorted too (this is already the case with the names of the videos by default, but things change in case the same folder includes several videos from different cameras, each one with its own format). The user can manually add a title for each video, one for the entire album and one for the folder containing the album.

Output file name format (fields in brackets are optional):

[folderName]\[albumName] YYYY MM DD – HH:MM:SS [videoTitle].ext

Example before renaming:

..\newFolder\VID056.MOD
..\newFolder\VID057.MOD

Example after renaming:

..\My cousin’s wedding\My cousin’s wedding 2012 08 15 – 15:35:50 The bride entry.mod
..\My cousin’s wedding\My cousin’s wedding 2012 08 15 – 16:00:20.mod
Music mode

Music mode

When loading a music album, ACE Renamer automatically will automatically identify the appropriate fields in the songs: artist, year, album, song number and song title. As in the TV Series mode, it offers the possibility to automatically rename the album covers (front, back, etc.).

Output file name format (fields in brackets are optional):

[[Artist] [Year] [Album]]\[Artist] – [Year] – [Album] – songNo – songTitle.ext
Pictures mode

Pictures mode

This mode provides the same functionality as Video Mode but with image files.

Output file name format (fields in brackets are optional):

[folderName]\[albumName] YYYY MM DD – HH:MM:SS [pictureTitle].ext

Example before renaming:

..\newFolder\IMG547.JPG
..\newFolder\IMG548.JPG

Example after renaming:

..\My cousin’s wedding\My cousin’s wedding 2012 08 15 – 20:05:16 My uncle before slipping.jpg
..\My cousin’s wedding\My cousin’s wedding 2012 08 15 – 20:05:20 My uncle after slipping.jpg
Files mode

Files mode

This mode is the simplest of all. The only tools available are Replacements and Upper and Lower case in order to change the name of any file type to suit the user.
