ACE Renamer help

Rename toolRename tool

This tool shows a different interface depending on the working mode, although all modes have one thing in common: if the menu opcion 'Options/Preview results' is checked, Rename tool won't show the rename button but the preview button. When you press this button you will see a preview of the final names of the files. This preview takes in consideration possible name conflicts like having another file with the same name in the same location.

TV Series modeTV Series mode

The elements this tool shows under TV Series mode are the following:

  • TV Series

: the name of the series, automatically identified when the TV Series mode was activated. It can be manually edited.

  • Season

: the season number, automatically identified when the TV Series mode was activated. It can be manually edited.

  • Folder

: by default, Renamer writes here the word ‘Season ‘ plus the season number in a two digits format. This will be the name of the folder containing the episodes if the ‘Rename folder’ checkbox is checked. It can be manually edited.

  • Update

: when pressing this button, the Folder field will take its default value.

  • Rename folder

: if this checkbox is checked when renaming the files, the folder containing the episodes will be renamed (with the Folder field value) and the folder containing this one will also be renamed (with the Series field value).

  • Rename tool

    Rename

: the renaming process will begin by pressing this button.

  • Cover renamer

: if there is more than one image file in the same folder where the episodes are, the cover renamer will be prompted so that the user can chose which one is the cover of the season.

Music modeMusic mode

The elements this tool shows under Music mode are the following:

  • Artist

: the name of the artist, automatically identified when the Music mode was activated. It can be manually edited.

  • Year

: the year of the album, automatically identified when the Music mode was activated. It can be manually edited.

  • Album

: the name of the album, automatically identified when the Music mode was activated. It can be manually edited.

Special case: When an album has more than one CD

In this case all audio files and covers must be placed in the same folder just like with any other album. But the songs from each CD must be renamed separately, this means the song from the first CD must be loaded and then renamed (including folder and covers). The difference is that the name of the album must end with the information of the CD to which the songs belong like the following:

    nameOfTheAlbum (CDX)

Where X is the CD number. This way audio files will be renamed like the following:

File name format with several CDs per album:

    Artist – Year – Album (CDX) – songNo – songTitle.ext

However, the CD number will be ognored when renaming the folder and the covers (if 'Ignore CD number' option in the covers renamer is checked (by default)).

The way to renamer the rest od the audio files after renaming the files from the first CD is the same, but without needing to rename the folder nor the covers.

  • Folder

: this will be the name of the folder if the ‘Rename folder’ checkbox is checked. It can be manually edited.

  • Update

: when pressing this button, the Folder field will take the value ‘Artist – Year – Album’.

  • Rename folder

: if this checkbox is checked when renaming the files, the folder containing the songs will be renamed (with the Folder field value).

  • Insert metadata automatically

: if this checkbox is checked when renaming the files, the field of the song will be inserted also as metadata, including an image selected by the user, so these metadata are shown when playing the file with a multimedia player with metadata capabilities.

  • Rename tool

    • Cover renamer

: if Renamer detects images in the same folder where the music files are, the cover renamer will show. In this window you can assign each file a type of cover (front, back, inside, inlay and CD). There can be more than one inside cover and more than one CD per album, so a number is automatically assigned to each one. If there is just one inside cover or just one CD numeration will be automatically canceled. Imagen unassigned will not be renamed.
