ACE Renamer help

Music modeMusic mode

This mode is designed to rename a music album.

The usual sequence of actions to rename a group of songs is as follows:

  • Load the songs

: through the ‘Load files’ menu, the ‘Load files’ button or directly by dragging the files from a Windows explorer, the files will be loaded. The names of the files (without the extension) will be shown in the first column of the table. The following columns will show the fields that the program was able to identify automatically.

  • Check fields

: songs have the following fields: artist name, year, album name, song number and song title. If Renamer identifies the correct fields automatically, the only ones that will be shown are the song number and song title, because they have different values for each song. The rest of fields, although may have not been correctly identified, don’t need to be corrected because they will be more easily defined with the Rename tool, in the last step of the sequence of actions.

In case the song numbers or the song titles where not correctly identified, you shall use the Associate Fields tool to correct this. To rename a season it is neccesary that the program knows the song’s numbers and the song’s titles.

  • Modify fields

: at this point you might use the Replacements tool, Upper and Lower Case tool and the Garbage Treatment tool to modify the song’s numbers and the song’s titles. Modifications will affect selected cells in the table. Cells can also be manually edited, except the first column.

  • Rename

    • Rename songs

: once the song’s numbers and the song’s titles are ok, you must use the Rename tool. Then, if the artist’s name, the album’s year or the album’s name where not correctly identified, they should be corrected now. You can also optionally indicate a different name for the album’s folder. When all data is correct, press the Rename button to iniciate the renaming process.

    • Insert metadata

: if the 'Insert metadata automatically' opcion is checked in the Rename tool (checked by default), the following fields will be inserted as metadata in the audio file: Title, Artist, Year, Album, Track number and Total number of tracks. Also user will be asked to select an image (normally the front cover) to be insertad in the file as metadata. This way multimedia players with this capability will be able of showing the image when playing the file. If user doesn't want to insert any image as metadata Cancel button must be pressed when prompted to chose the image.

    • Rename covers

: if during the renaming process Renamer finds one or more images in the album’s folder, it will ask the user if they should be renamed as the album’s covers, allowing the user to set manually a new name for them. If any name is left blank the file won’t be renamed:

      Album’s covers name format:

      artist – year – album – newName.ext
Clicking and dragging the space between the image list and the selected image preview both elements will be resized. Columns in the image table can also be resized by dragging at the right edge of the column.

The ‘Ignore CD number’ checkbox (checked by default) means that, if the name of the ‘album’ field in the Rename tool contains the string ‘CDX’ where X is the number of CD, it will be ignored when renaming the covers. This is because the normal way of renaming a 2 CDs album is to first rename the song on CD1 and indicate this in the album’s name (example: Live after death CD1) so the song are sorted by CD number and after by song number. As the covers do not belong to a concrete CD, leaving this checkbox checked the info about the CD number will be omited when renaming the images.

    • Rename folder

: if the ‘Rename folder’ option was checked in the Rename tool, the folder containing the episodes will be renamed with the value of the ‘Folder’ field in the Rename tool.

The final format of a music album, including covers and folder renaming is as follows:

Example of renamed album:

folderName\albumName – year – artist – 01 – songTitle.mp3
folderName\albumName – year – artist – 02 – songTitle.mp3
folderName\albumName – year – artist – 03 – songTitle.mp3
folderName\albumName – year – artist – Front.jpg
folderName\albumName – year – artist – Back.jpg
folderName\albumName – year – artist – Inlay.jpg
